1. Overview

Tera Cota is a plant identification and care app.

Tera Cota works without requiring a traditional account with your name, email address, or phone number. Instead, the app uses anonymous identifiers to provide the Service, manage subscriptions, prevent abuse, and provide support.

We do not sell your personal information.

We do not use third-party advertising tracking.

We do not collect your payment card details.

Payments and subscriptions are handled through Apple’s App Store.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

Tera Cota does not require you to provide:

  • your name;
  • your email address;
  • your phone number;
  • your home address;
  • your precise location;
  • your payment card details;
  • a username or password.

We do not use IDFA or similar advertising identifiers for cross-app tracking.

If you contact us by email, we will receive the email address and information you choose to send.

3. Information We Collect

Photos You Provide

When you take or upload a plant photo, we process that photo to identify the plant and provide related plant information.

You should avoid uploading photos that include people, children, private documents, sensitive information, or anything unrelated to plant identification.

Plant Results and History

We may process plant identification results, plant names, care information, safety-related information, timestamps, and related app activity.

Some plant history is stored on your device. If you delete the app, your plant history stored on that device may be lost.

Anonymous Identifiers

Tera Cota may create anonymous identifiers for your app installation or user session.

These identifiers help us provide the Service, connect your app to subscription status, prevent abuse, apply fair-use limits, and assist with support requests.

Your anonymous user ID may be visible in the app settings. If you contact support, we may ask you to include it.

Subscription Information

If you start a trial or purchase a subscription, we may receive information needed to know whether your subscription is active.

Payments, cancellations, refunds, and billing are handled by Apple. We do not receive your full payment card details.

Technical Information

Like most apps and online services, we may process technical information that is automatically created when the app communicates with our systems.

This may include device, app, request, performance, and server log information.

We use this information to provide the Service, maintain security, prevent abuse, improve performance, and understand how the app is used.

4. How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • provide plant identification and related plant information;
  • show your plant results and history;
  • manage subscription access and restore purchases;
  • operate, maintain, protect, and improve Tera Cota;
  • prevent abuse, fraud, excessive usage, and security issues;
  • respond to support requests;
  • understand app performance and usage;
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our rights.

We may also use photos, plant results, feedback, and related information to improve, test, and develop Tera Cota and its plant-identification technology.

5. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We do not share your information for third-party targeted advertising.

We may share limited information only when needed to operate Tera Cota, including with:

  • Apple, for App Store payments, subscriptions, refunds, and app distribution;
  • subscription infrastructure providers, to manage subscription access;
  • hosting, storage, database, infrastructure, security, and technical service providers;
  • authorities or other parties if required by law or necessary to protect our rights, users, or Service.

These parties are allowed to process information only as needed for the relevant purpose.

6. Where Information Is Processed

Tera Cota may be used worldwide.

Information submitted through Tera Cota is currently processed and stored in the United States. If you use Tera Cota from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States.

Privacy laws in the United States may be different from privacy laws in your country.

7. How Long We Keep Information

We keep information for as long as reasonably needed to provide, maintain, protect, improve, and develop Tera Cota, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our Terms.

Some information may be kept for a long period unless deleted, including photos, plant results, anonymous identifiers, technical records, subscription records, and support communications.

Plant history stored on your device may be lost if you delete the app or lose access to your device.

8. Deletion Requests

You may request deletion of information associated with your anonymous user ID by contacting us at:

Please include the anonymous user ID shown in the app settings so we can locate the relevant records.

Depending on your use of the app, we may be able to delete uploaded photos, related plant identification records, and other information associated with your anonymous user ID.

Some information may be kept if needed for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, dispute resolution, subscription records, or legitimate business purposes.

Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription. Subscriptions must be managed through your Apple ID settings.

9. Children’s Privacy

Tera Cota is not intended for children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information to us through Tera Cota, contact us at support@teracota.app, and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

This may include photos or support messages that were submitted through the app.

10. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, delete, correct, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of certain information we process about you.

Because Tera Cota does not require a traditional account, we may need your anonymous user ID to process the request.

We use reasonable measures to protect information processed by Tera Cota.

However, no app, server, database, or internet-based service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Please avoid uploading photos or messages that contain sensitive personal information.

12. No Sale or Targeted Advertising

We do not sell personal information.

We do not share personal information for third-party targeted advertising.

We do not use IDFA or similar advertising identifiers for cross-app tracking.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time.

When we update it, we will change the effective date above. We may also provide notice through the app, website, App Store update notes, or other reasonable methods.

Your continued use of Tera Cota after an updated Privacy Policy becomes effective means you accept the updated Privacy Policy.
